Comparing the Toyota RAV4 to the Honda CR-V in Chambersburg, PA

The Toyota RAV4 continues to be a leader in the compact crossover segment. Its efficiency, style, and safety make it a great choice for families, adventurers, and commuters alike. The latest RAV4 even comes available as a hybrid SUV and a plug-in electric car, the new RAV4 Prime. The Honda CR-V remains a worthy challenger in the crossover segment, but the RAV4 has a lot more advantages drivers should consider. Let us see how these two SUVs stack up in a head-to-head comparison.

Performance

The RAV4 not only outpaces the CR-V in fuel economy, it even offers more horsepower as well. The standard engine of the RAV4 generates 203-horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The Honda CR-V's standard performance, while turbocharged, falls short in performance, generating 190-horsepower and 179 pound-feet.

While the Honda CR-V is now available as a hybrid, the gas-powered crossover still falls short on fuel economy, traveling an EPA-estimated 34 mpg on the highway. The RAV4 also now comes available as the RAV4 Hybrid and RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. This variety gives you more environmentally-friendly options for you to enjoy in your daily travels.

Technology

All trim levels of the RAV4 give drivers a lot of excellent options for easy listening of music, podcasts and more. The standard audio system of the Toyota RAV4 supports BluetoothĀ®, Apple CarPlayĀ®, Android Autoā„¢, and Amazon Alexa home devices. The RAV4 also comes with a three-month trial subscription to SiriusXMĀ® All-Access. While most of these features are available on the Honda CR-V, only BluetoothĀ® comes standard on all trims. The base trim does not support smartphone integration and there is no available compatibility with Amazon Alexa devices.

To help keep you safe on the streets and the highways, the Toyota RAV4 now includes Toyota Safety SenseĀ® 2.0 driver-assistive safety features across all trim levels. Whole the CR-V has a similar standard driver-assist safety suite, Honda SensingĀ®, it is missing two key features: Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) and Road Sign Assist (RSA). These come standard on the new TSS 2.0 but are completely absent from the Honda CR-V.

Off-Road Capabilities

If you're the type of person that enjoys taking to the trails of your favorite wooded area near Chambersburg, then there is a RAV4 trim you will like. The All-new Adventure trim and TRD Off-Road both feature a wide selection of standard upgrades to boost fun and functionality on the trails. The Adventure trim features standard Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD and a 120-volt deck-mounted power outlet. The TRD Off-Road includes the same AWD as well as a TRD-tuned independent suspension.

The Honda CR-V features four available trims that do not include most of these upgrades. The AWD system of the CR-V is formidable in adverse weather, but this crossover is not generally recommended for long-term off-road adventuring.
